[Social.coop](https://social.coop) is an experiment in user-controlled social media. It is a community hub for people interested in co-ops and development of free/libre social media - these define the common core field of discussion, though they are far from the only things discussed. We currently run and maintain a Mastodon instance that is funded by user contributions via OpenCollective. Social.coop is governed by its users on [Loomio](https://www.loomio.org/socialcoop/), a governance platform developed by a worker co-op.

Contributing through [OpenCollective](https://opencollective.com/socialcoop#) is a condition of membership.

In up to 500 characters (the maximum length of a toot on Mastodon), can you tell us a bit about why you wish to join social.coop, and what hopes or aspirations you have for the site and/or your participation? We’d like to build a picture of how our members want to use the site.

## Code of Conduct:
The Code of Conduct is a living document that outlines acceptable behaviour when members use social.coop Mastodon, Loomio, the Wiki, the Riot chat room, and all other spaces governed by the co-op. Social.coop adopts the “coop values”: self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. Our members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others. We also follow the rest of the ICA co-op principles.
We welcome anyone able to use our services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, regardless of qualities such as gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, nationality, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, family structure, spirituality, religion (or lack thereof), education, or other personal traits.
We particularly celebrate diversity and do not tolerate bigotry, prejudice or supremacy of any kind. Diverse opinions on politics, religion, and other matters are welcome as long as they align with our core values. Let there be no confusion, Social.Coop is anti-racist, anti-fascist, and anti-transphobic. Moderators will take action on posts that contravene this Code of Conduct.
