We discussed this on the TWG call today, and people generally supported the idea. Some questions that came up were:
Should we follow the main RSS feed only or should we include the working group specific feeds too?
Should we post on the main social.coop account, or post on a separate socialcoop-loomio or somesuch account?
Where should we run the program? Dan has worked on MLTSHP and Ed on Feediverse, which could be helpful too? We could also use a service like MastoFeed or perhaps run a rss-to-activitypub instance for co-op members more generally?
Do we simply want to announce things verbatim, or are there ways of sharing Loomio events that could help encourage participation more?
We thought one way of moving this forward would be to create a test account to show members what this could look like, and then share the idea with the Organizing Circle at our next joint meeting in two weeks. What do you think @ntnsndr?
I think it would be great to include all feeds—but to mark WG entries appropriately if possible.
I think it would be fine to post on @socialcoop since it isn't used a lot anyway. But it would also be fine to add another one, and maybe make it a default follow?
I think this is a great idea, thank you for working on it! We discussed yesterday in the TWG meeting more concretely as a task. Next step I would say is to start a PR in our ops repository (ansible) to add a bot role to one of our servers.
Cross-posting all feeds by default sounds like a good default strategy, we can throttle back later if the community prefers this?
Using @socialcoop is easiest as it would just require us to quickly get an authentication token and run it manually to test any implementation. But using something like @socialcoopfeeds could enable e.g. the CWG to cherrypick updates by boosting them from the main account? Then again, the whole community can boost as they see fit regardless of which account we post on.
I think whoever takes the task to implement this should experiment with the tools we discussed and choose one or several. Without having looked into the specific implementations yet, being able to cross post multiple feeds with optional tagging sounds ideal and would be a feature we would want at least eventually.
Verbatim (link plus title of thread) sounds like a good starting default.
Thanks again for working on this together comrades!
I like how it gives us the flexibility of each RSS feed having its own subscribe-able account, for example the @socialcoop account could boost selectively from any of these accounts:
@loomio_socialcoop@rss.social.coop
@loomio_socialcoop_cwg@rss.social.coop
@loomio_socialcoop_finance@rss.social.coop
While also letting people who authenticate against Keycloak set up their own feeds. I could take a shot at setting up the ansible stuff for it if we like this approach.
